Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum, the southern most district in Kerala, is bordered by the Kollam district on the north and Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu on the east and south respectively. he District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Thiruvananthapuram is the first district mental health programme allotted to the state of Kerala, under the National Mental Health Programme.
The Programme is operational since 1st of September 1999. Presently, 25 monthly outreach clinics are being conducted and more than 6000 patients receive it's care.
The programme also train Medical Officers in diagnosis and management of common psychiatric disorders, and health workers in early detection, referral and follow up. Moreover, it engages in Information, Education and Communication as well as promotion of self-help groups. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 29,907 students who wrote the SSLC examinations from schools in Thiruvananthapuram revenue district have been declared eligible for higher studies.
Of these, 15,963 are girls. However, the percentage of students from the district who have been declared eligible for higher studies - 64.84 - is below the overall percentage figure for the State, 68.95.
While 80.4 per cent of the students who wrote from Kottayam have been declared eligible for higher studies, the figure for Ernakulam is 77.89, for Thrissur 77.74, and for Wayanad 70.18.
As many as 172 students from Thiruvananthapuram district have secured A+ grade in all 13 subjects. An overwhelming majority of these students - 130 - are girls. On this front too, the students from Thiruvananthapuram have been outclassed by their counterparts from Thrissur (223), Ernakulam (221), Kozhikode (216) and Kannur (184).

The Dutch and Portuguese had commercial establishments here. It is being developed as a modern fishing harbor.
Ponmudi It is a pleasant resort at an elevation of 912m above sea level, 61 kms from Thiruvananthapuram and well connected by road. There are many tree and rubber estates around the hills.
Veli lagoon The boat club attracts tourists by providing facilities for pedal boating, row boating, swimming on the placid waters of the Veli Lake.
The Kanakakunnu Palace This palace in the heart of Trivandrum city is one of the most beautiful buildings. The palace and its sprawling grounds are today the venue for many cultural meets. The Museum building is an architectural splendor. The Napier museum, the natural history museum, the reptile house and the Shri Chitra Art Gallery are in the same complex amidst a well laid out garden and park. |
