The town of Sri Mahavirji is one the most popular Jain pilgrimages in India for here is one of the holiest Jain temples in Rajasthan. This temple is situated 110 km from Sawai Madhopur. A huge statue of Shantinath, one of the Jain fordmakers, stands here at the height of 32 feet, casting a noble eye on disciples below.
The temple is a vast complex costructed with white sandstone, and has cupolas of red sandstone along with the chhatris & spires visible from all around. The bustle and fervour at Sri Mahavirji reaches its peak during March and April, when an annual fair is held at the temple. The fair includes a ritual immersion of the sacred idol in the Gambhir river, as well as other festivities and ceremonies.
Getting there :
By Rail : The nearest railway station is that of Mahavirji (Chandanpur), 7 km from the temple. The station, which is 175 km from the state capital at Jaipur, lies on the main Delhi-Mumbai line
By Road : From Kadamba Bus stand across the Patto / Qurrent creek 7-8 minutes walk at the entrance of the city on the bank of Mandvi River, from where regular buses ply to the sanctuary.
